The Shelborne by Proper sits at 1801 Collins Avenue, a 1941 Art Deco property restored through a $100 million renovation completed in 2025 under Proper Hotels. The Beach Club by Proper launched on May 1, 2025, operating as a membership club with access extended to hotel guests. The property was originally designed by Igor Polevitzky and later expanded by Morris Lapidus, and the renovation preserves that architectural foundation while updating the full food, beverage, and wellness offering. It is one of the more complete membership beach club formats currently operating on the South Beach stretch.
The pool is the original Art Deco design with a historic diving platform, surrounded by mint-green daybeds and nine private cabanas, each with its own restroom. The beach extends directly from the property with reserved loungers, umbrellas, and full food and beverage service on the sand. The tone is relaxed and design-forward, consistent with the Proper Hotels aesthetic. Cultural programming runs weekly through the Proper Presents series, covering curated talks, wellness panels, and sunset sound sessions.
The Pool Deck kitchen runs daily from 11AM to 6PM with an American and Latin-influenced menu. Signature items include conch fritters, a grouper club sandwich, jerk smash burger, and seasonal paletas alongside frozen cocktails and a full bar. The cocktail program was developed by globally awarded cocktail architect Christopher Lowder. DJ sets run weekly on the pool deck, with live music activations and monthly breakfast and quarterly dinner events for members.
