Taboo has been operating in Tulum's Hotel Zone since 2018, under Grupo Rosa Negra, positioned on Carretera Boca Paila at Km 7. The restaurant runs a Mediterranean menu developed by Chef Athinagoras Kostakos, drawing from the culinary traditions of Italy, Greece, and Spain. The kitchen specializes in fresh seafood, whole fish preparations, housemade pasta, and premium cuts, with the signature salt-baked whole fish flambéed tableside with Ouzo as one of the most theatrical dishes on the menu. The format runs from midday through late night, with the beach club active during the day and the restaurant format taking over in the evening.
The space is multilevel, beachfront, built with white limestone and natural wood throughout. Handcrafted lamps and sculptures by local artisans define the interior aesthetic. A resident DJ runs from opening to close, with live saxophone and violin performances integrated through the evening. The Four Elements Ritual show runs at night, combining fire, water, earth, and air in a performance over the sea. Shisha service is available as an additional experience throughout the night. The venue accommodates couples, groups, and private celebrations, with dedicated packages for birthdays, bachelorette groups, and weddings.
The menu centers on Mediterranean seafood: branzino, turbot, San Pedro fish, lobster, mussels, Alaskan king crab, and daily fresh catch. Tostadas, tacos, ceviches, and aguachiles add a coastal Mexican layer to the Mediterranean base. Housemade pasta, wood-fired preparations, and sushi complement the offering. The cocktail program is built around the four elements concept, with craft drinks prepared with natural and seasonal ingredients. Vegan options are available. Service includes personalized attention for special occasions with champagne moments and coordinated celebrations.
