The Abu Dhabi Grand Prix closes the Formula 1 season at Yas Marina Circuit, and many of the people who travel for it never stay in Abu Dhabi at all. Dubai is close enough to reach Yas Island each day, with far more choice away from the track. Planned well, the weekend splits in two: the racing on Yas Island in the afternoon, dinner and the night in Dubai.
When is the 2026 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix?
The 2026 race weekend runs from Friday 4 to Sunday 6 December and is the final round of the season. Practice is on Friday, qualifying on Saturday and the race on Sunday, with a late afternoon start that finishes under the lights. Arriving on Wednesday or Thursday gives time to settle in before the first session.
Can you stay in Dubai for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix?
Yes, and it is a common choice. Hotels on Yas Island are few and fill first for race week, while Dubai has far more range in villas, suites and hotels. The trade off is the daily drive, which is manageable with a plan: a chauffeur from the airport on arrival, a base in Downtown, DIFC or on the Palm, and a driver on standby for the race days.
How do you get from Dubai to Yas Marina?
Yas Island sits on the Dubai side of Abu Dhabi, roughly 115 to 130 kilometres from central Dubai along the E11. Outside race traffic the drive takes about an hour to an hour and a half. A private driver on full-day disposal is the most practical option: drop off close to the gates, a fixed pickup point when you leave, and no parking to deal with. For groups that want to cut the road time, a private helicopter transfer can be arranged, subject to landing permissions during race week.
- Leave Dubai early on Saturday and Sunday, as traffic builds toward the afternoon sessions.
- In recent editions, free shuttles for ticket holders have linked points across Yas Island with the circuit.
- Public parking has been at Yas Mall, with shuttles to the track, and it fills on the busiest days.
- Taxi queues after the race can be long, which is where a confirmed driver makes the difference.
Which tickets and hospitality should you choose?
General admission on Abu Dhabi Hill is the most relaxed option, open grass with a view over part of the lap. Grandstands give a reserved, covered seat: the Main Grandstand faces the start and finish, the North Grandstand looks at the hairpin, and the West, South and Marina Grandstands each cover a different section. Above that come the hospitality options, from suites with a private lounge to the Paddock Club above the pit lane, with food and drinks included. The most exclusive setting is the marina itself, where yachts berth alongside the track. Berths are limited and committed early, and the marina is a controlled access zone, so every guest needs the right credentials.
Are there concerts after the race?
Yes. For 2026 the after race concerts at Etihad Live, the open air venue next to the circuit, include Imagine Dragons on Saturday after qualifying and The Chainsmokers with The Script on Sunday after the race. Entry is for Grand Prix ticket holders, with Golden Circle upgrades sold separately, and ticket holders also get complimentary access to selected attractions in Abu Dhabi. Staying for it also lets the traffic ease before the drive back.
Where to eat and go out in Dubai on race weekend?
In DIFC, Zuma, LPM Dubai and Gaia work well for a group arriving late from Yas Island. For a view, At.mosphere is on level 122 of the Burj Khalifa and SushiSamba on level 51 of the Palm Tower. For the celebration dinner, Stay by Yannick Alléno at One&Only The Palm holds two Michelin stars, and Ossiano at Atlantis is set beside the aquarium.
For the night after, 1 OAK and Billionaire Mansion are in Business Bay, and Blu Dubai is on the 32nd floor of V Hotel. On race weekend, book the late table together with dinner.
How to use the days around the race?
The sessions run in the afternoon and evening, which leaves the mornings and the days on either side free. A beach club such as Nikki Beach or Cove Beach, a sunrise hot air balloon or a desert safari fit easily.
How far ahead should you book?
As early as possible. The final race of the season draws visitors from around the world, the best grandstand and hospitality positions go first, and marina berths are committed long before the weekend. Securing the ticket first and building the Dubai side around it is the order that works.
