Dubai has one of the busiest restaurant scenes in the world, and from November to March it is also one of the hardest to book. The best tables cluster in a few areas, the weekends fill first, and the most requested places hold their prime times for weeks. Knowing where to go and when to reserve makes the difference between the table you wanted and the one that was left.
Why is DIFC the first stop for dinner?
Gate Village in DIFC gathers several of the city's most requested restaurants within a short walk. Zuma serves contemporary Japanese with a robata grill and a DJ bar upstairs, and LPM Dubai brings the French Riviera and is consistently hard to reserve. Gaia and Avli by Tashas cover Greek and Mediterranean cooking, while Cipriani, Roberto's and Shanghai Me keep the evening going late.
Where can you dine with a view?
For the skyline, At.mosphere is on level 122 of the Burj Khalifa, 442 metres above the ground, and SushiSamba sits on level 51 of the Palm Tower with views in every direction. Belcanto, on the rooftop of Dubai Opera, adds live music facing the Burj Khalifa. By the sea, Pierchic is set on a private pier looking straight at the Burj Al Arab.
Which are the Michelin starred tables?
STAY by Yannick Alléno at One&Only The Palm holds two Michelin stars and serves tasting menus in a garden setting. Ossiano at Atlantis The Palm, with one star, is set beside the aquarium, and Hakkasan brings Michelin starred Cantonese to the same resort. These are the tables to secure first for a birthday or a celebration dinner.
What is there on the Palm and in Jumeirah?
Atlantis The Palm and Atlantis The Royal are destinations on their own: Nobu Dubai on the 22nd floor, and Carbone with its New York style and a terrace over the Palm. At Four Seasons Resort Jumeirah, Coya adds a Pisco bar and live music, Nammos Dubai brings Mykonos to the beachfront, and Scalini keeps its classic Italian service. Away from the coast, Carine at Emirates Golf Club is a calmer choice with views over the course.
Which restaurants work best for groups?
Larger tables are easier in places built for an evening rather than a quick dinner. Coya, Zuma and LPM Dubai handle groups well with sharing menus, while Cipriani and Carbone suit a long, lively dinner. For a private occasion, the restaurants with separate rooms or terraces should be asked first, as those spaces are limited and go early in the season.
Where to have lunch in Dubai?
Lunch is the easiest way into places that are fully booked at night. Pierchic and Avli by Tashas are open for lunch, and a long afternoon at Nammos Dubai on the beach at Four Seasons Resort Jumeirah fits naturally between a morning at the pool and an evening in DIFC.
Where to go after dinner?
Several restaurants extend into the night: Cipriani has the Socialista lounge next door, Shanghai Me has Bund as its late private club, and Coya opens COYA Club on selected nights. For a club, 1 OAK and Billionaire Mansion are in Business Bay, and Blu Dubai is on the 32nd floor of V Hotel. Booking the late table together with dinner is what keeps the evening flowing.
How far ahead should you book?
- Weekend dinners at the most requested places: two to three weeks ahead in high season.
- Michelin tasting menus and celebration dinners: as soon as the date is fixed.
- Large groups and private rooms: earlier, as there are few of them.
- Festive dates such as New Year's Eve: often with set menus and prepayment.
What should you know before you go?
Most of these restaurants expect smart dress in the evening, and some apply minimum spends or time limits on prime tables. Reconfirming the day before is common, and many places hold a table for only a short time if you are late. Planning the order of the evening, dinner first and then a late venue nearby, keeps the night simple.
